Research Paper Scoring Elements
Each section is roughly worth 20 points. It is vital to remember that each paper I will receive will be totally different in subject and style, so these elements listed below are just a starting point for me when I grade your paper.
1) Historical Importance
* Historical subject interesting to general public
* Major or minor event, person, group that has significance
* Subject will give a scholarly contribution to historic thought
2) Historical Documentation
* Detail
* Accuracy
* Diverse: researched subject from at least 3 points of view
* Primary sources more important that secondary sources
* Original
3) Thorough
* Subject well researched (3 points of view or more)
* Many details
* Broad understanding of subject (“worldly understanding”)
* Thorough analyzing of subject
4) Style
* Coherent communication of subject
* Clearly defined subject
* Compare to other subjects, when appropriate
* Organized flow of information
* Concise sentences and paragraphs
* Introduction and conclusion paragraphs
5) Presentation
* Grammar
* Bibliography with 10 sources
* Typed
* Name, class, term
* Title of subject
